Mullewa Return Country’s Generosity
The Shire of Mullewa has committed $2,000 to the Victorian Bush Fire Appeal in a move that Shire CEO Tom Hartman says aims at reciprocating the support the Mullewa community had received during the 2006 and 2007 droughts.
Mr Hartman said the town had received State Government, Lions Club and individuals’ assistance for community activities when they were experiencing tough years.
“We recognised the need to help the Victorian communities to rebuild, and give something back as thanks for the support we received,” he said.
“We know what it’s like to be a small community going through tough times, without having the added stress of loss of life and property, and our hearts go out to them.”
The Mullewa community has also banded together to donate clothes and other items to the appeal.
12 wool packs of the donations were delivered free of charge to Father Brian Morrison’s Crisis Care Centre in Perth by local transport carrier Murchison Mail and Freight.
“The level of support shown by local residents, especially our schools, reaffirms the strong community spirit we strive for,” Mr Hartman said.
