Mullewa Showcases Fantastic Wildflower Season
The Shire of Mullewa has experienced an unprecedented number of visitors to the town in what locals are saying is the best wildflower season they have ever seen in the region.
Rolling carpets of pink, white and yellow Everlastings adorn the hinterland, while the sweet scent of the native trees such as the wattle and acacia wafts through the bushland on Mullewa’s doorstep.
The caravan park is currently operating at full capacity as visitors flock to see the wildflowers the region is famous for.
For the first time, visitors can explore the breathtaking hinterland or fascinating townscape of Mullewa, by selecting one of the new Everlasting Cultural Trails to wander at their leisure.
The series of four walk trails total just under eight kilometres in and around the town site.
The Everlasting Cultural Trails are a new initiative developed by the Shire of Mullewa to promote the diverse range of tourism attractions within the area.
The Bushland Trail highlights the esteemed qualities of the area with its rich natural features, and provides panoramic views across the bushland, into Mullewa.
The Rail-Loop Trail showcases Mullewa’s once-expansive rail precinct, a hub for trains travelling between Geraldton and Perth via Morawa, to the outback town of Wiluna.
The Town Heritage Walk allows visitors to experience the history of people and place on a leisurely stroll about town.
The Wildflower Walk showcases the stunning flora that brings visitors from far and wide to see.
The bush is alive in late winter with dramatic carpets of pink, yellow and white Everlastings.
Visitors will also appreciate the opportunity to view the exhibition at the new local artist studio, the Moorheads Building, or Ngyrlu Mulla-Mugah, meaning Our Place, Our Home.
The Moorheads local artist studio showcases both traditional and contemporary Indigenous artwork, with each meticulously hand painted canvas telling its own story of Aboriginal culture.
Local artists’ work has also been applied to the streetscape, with powerpoles brightly painted in the native flowers of the area, and a “Talking Mosaic” meeting place at Pirrottina Park providing an ideal spot for a picnic.
