Mega Fun Day for Mullewa Youth
The Shire of Mullewa hosted the inaugural Mega Fun Day last week to bring together families with young children to partake in craft activities and games.
The morning was coordinated and funded by the Department of Child Protection and the Resource Unit for Children with Special Needs, and featured a visit from Constable Care to pass on safety messages, a clown and Old MacDonalds Farm allowing children to get up close with baby goats, sheep, ducks and chickens.
Art and craft was the order of the day, with children making tiaras, stained glass window pieces, dragons and paintings.
The Youth’n’Motion community youth bus was in attendance, while displays from Nagle Catholic College, Family Relationship Centre, Women’s Health Centre, Health Information Office and Midwest and Murchison Day Care, among others, provided a link to parent information.
CEO of the Shire of Mullewa Tom Hartman said the day was about reaching families in the region, giving them a chance to get together and socialise.
“We also think that the day helps bring the Indigenous community together and provide ideas for creative, interactive play time at home,” he said.
Morning tea was provided by the Mullewa Art Craft and Patchwork Club, while the Shire council granted the use of the Recreation Centre free of charge for the day.
“We have had very positive feedback about the day. Parents commended the obvious amount of effort that went into organising such an event and said the results spoke for themselves.
