Mullewa Welcomes New Youth Centre Coordinator

The Shire of Mullewa recently welcomed new Youth Centre Coordinator, Nick Miles to its growing team.

Nick brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Mullewa, his employment prior to the appointment being many and varied.

Nick has previously worked as a Mine Warfare Combat Systems Operator with the Royal Australian Navy, with the WA Railway Police Unit, and as a licensed scaffolder before fulfilling a Boarding House Parent role at Christian Brothers’ Agricultural School in Tardun.

Nick’s chief roles will be to conduct the day-to-day running of the Youth Centre and develop and implement after school and weekend activity programmes.

Throughout the April holidays a range of exciting activities will be available to youth, including painting, basketball, lawn bowls and a Blue Light Disco, with support from local Police.

To celebrate the upcoming Youth Week from April 7 – 14, the Youth Centre will also conduct Hip Hop workshops, incorporating rap and dance.

Nick said he was looking forward to making a difference within the whole community.
“We want to bring some positive change in how the kids are viewed by others, and ultimately how the kids view themselves,” he said.

“I believe with my contribution and involvement, along with that of the rest of the community, together we can do good things.”

CEO of the Shire of Mullewa Tom Hartman said that the new addition to staff would provide enhanced community benefits, particularly during the upcoming holiday periods.

“The Youth Centre plays a vital role in engaging youth in positive activities, while addressing youth at risk with preventative measures and we look forward to Nick’s input,” he said.

The Shire also took on Rachel McKenzie as Community Project Officer and Susan Dickson as a joint Community Youth Development Officer with the Shire of Morawa earlier in the year.
