Mullewa Youth Dance to Hip Hop Beat

Local youth in the Shire of Mullewa learnt the popular art of hip hop and breakdance this week with returning dance teacher Nick Duff.

The initiative is part of the Shire’s school holiday activities program, designed to promote community participation and relieve boredom.

Duff taught youth to perform popular breakdance moves like head stands and spinouts, along with the accompanying beatbox music, in order for them to ‘put down a track’ and perform for their peers at a disco and sausage sizzle on Friday night.

“Nick has a passion for dance and the kids really connect with him,” CEO for the Shire of Mullewa, Tom Hartman said.

“Returning after Awesome Arts last year, Nick knows the kids names and how to engage them in structured learning, while still creating a fun atmosphere.”

Croc at Pool is another initiative, in conjunction with the Shire of Mullewa’s free pool entry, offering kids the opportunity to make their way to the pool at lunchtime each Saturday to enjoy a giant 15 metre long inflatable crocodile obstacle course.

Youth could also attend a movie marathon, silk screening and painting, or beading and karaoke throughout the week.
