Mullewa Everlasting Cultural Trails On Track

Stage One of the Mullewa Everlasting Cultural Trails is nearing completion with three trails, the Bushland Trail, Mullewa Town Heritage Trail and Rail Heritage Loop now established and open to the public.

The three trails, which focus on the historical and natural aspects of the town, total 4.9 kilometers of winding pathways through Mullewa’s rich hinterland and townscape.

The Bushland Trail is marked with sheltered lookout points and informative signage to guide visitors.
The signs identify natural features, such as the diverse local flora and fauna, while the Town Heritage Trail and Rail Heritage Loop signage focuses on the built features of Mullewa.

“We wanted to capture the local Indigenous history of Mullewa by including Aboriginal interpretations of trail information on the signs,” said Tom Hartman, CEO for the Shire of Mullewa.

“The local community has contributed an amazing amount of work to the trails, and they are proud to show off their cultural heritage to visitors.”

Work on the Wildflower Walk, the fourth of six trails, will begin early in the New Year.

Funding for the trails has been received from the Lotterywest Trails Funding Program, the State Government’s Regional Development Scheme, the
Australian Government’s Regional Partnerships Program and Environment Fund,
Department of Indigenous Affairs Heritage Grant, Department of Local Government Community Facilities Grant and Indigenous Regional Development Program and the Local Activities Grant Program.
