Mullewa Community Trust

The Mullewa Shire Council has established an annual program of funding to the Mullewa community to be known as the Mullewa Community Trust Grants Program. Monies for this program are derived from a Structural Adjustment Fund provided by Mt Gibson Mining Ltd as part of its obligation under the Public Benefit Agreement. This Agreement was concluded with the Council to honour the commitment of Mt Gibson Mining Ltd to the community for the development of the iron ore resource at Tallering Peak.

Distribution of Mullewa Community Trust monies will be through a committee consisting of the Mullewa Shire President, a member of the Mullewa community and a representative of Mt Gibson Mining Ltd. Funds will be made available to assist groups that can clearly demonstrate that their activities will be of benefit to the Mullewa community. The Mullewa Shire Council may set limits on the amount of funds to be distributed in any one year, or over any period. It will determine the criteria under which funding is distributed. As a general guide the annual disbursement will be $65,000 and the maximum amount to any group will be $10,000. The Mullewa Community Trust may recommend to the Council funding of a project that exceeds the $10,000 limit.

The objective of the Mullewa Community Trust Grants Program is to:
  • Encourage cooperation and sharing between community groups to ensure that a wide range of people can benefit from community resources,
  • Increase the range of, and access to, quality community, recreational, social and cultural activities, programs and services,
  • Support community development initiatives and socially responsible community activities,
  • Support groups that are working to assist economically or socially disadvantaged people,
  • Encourage the community to promote its region through promotional activities, and
  • Encourage the development of excellence in recreational, sporting and cultural pursuits.
Recipients of prior Mullewa Community Trust Grants are reminded that they are required to provide the Trust with a Project Completion Report (Acquittal) within two months of the completion of the funded project or by 31st May of the relevant year.

Grant applications for funding in the current round are now open from 12th October 2009 until 11th December 2009.
